COOKSCHOOL

ALL of the food prepared in class is 100% free from animal products, gluten, nuts and refined sugar.  All of our products are certified PALM OIL FREE. We are the first COOKSCHOOL in the world to have the international Palm Oil Free trademark.

TUTORS

Our COOKSCHOOL tutors ran the COOKSCHOOL for EL PIANO in York and Granada since 2006. As we have published the EL PIANO cookbooks over the years we have invited them to spearhead our food education program.  All are food writers trained in food handling and hygiene, have industrial experience as well as teaching qualifications. 

APPROACH

  • The approach is hands on.

  • Classes are small, rarely more than 4 people.

  • The focus is on "how things work" and on gaining basic skills that permit improvisation at home.

  • Everything is prepared from primary ingredients using as much local and organic food as possible.

  • We use ordinary domestic style kitchens rather than commercial training environments as this is the environment where most of the people who take our classes prepare food.

  • Nothing is 'something I prepared earlier' - it's all done together in class from primary ingredients.

  • We focus on how things work so that recipes are instantly adaptable to preference as well as to what is in season or to hand. Recipes can soon be dispensed with so that cooking no longer needs lots of reading, lists and shopping,

LOCATION

Classes take place across sites in Glasgow. All have free on-street parking plus easy subway and bus access

 

FEES

The cost of all ingredients, comprehensive notes, and food to take home is included. 

  • £55 - ESSENTIALS - 4-5 hours of either vegan or gluten-free essentials. 

  • £35 - MEALS - 2.5 - 3 hours - complete meals themed by national cuisines/flavours such as Thai, Mexican, Indian, Indonesian, Mediterranean, Persian, Chinese and Japanese and so on.

  • £25 - SINGLES - 2-2.5 hours - topics such as breads; tofu; pastry; 'meat' etc.

Students should bring aprons and containers in order to take prepared food home with them.

REFUNDS

In the unhappy event you are unable to attend we will always try and sell your space. If we do, we will fully refund your fee. If we are unable to do so, sadly, there is no refund.

ACCOMMODATION

We operate self-catering apartments in Glasgow. Please ask us if you need to stay overnight.

ACCESS

Regrettably none of our current sites are wheelchair accessible.

VOUCHERS

This will be completed in January and available for download. By all means contacts us if you would like to buy gift vouchers redeemable in the COOKSCHOOL.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

  • For commercial cooks, we are happy to run sessions for you and/or your staff in your kitchens.

  • Schools, please consider working us into your schools program (staff are qualified and have DBS/CRB clearance). We set aside some budget each year to support our work in the community.

  • Prisons, do consider working us into your adult education programs. We set aside some budget each year to support our work in the community.

  • Cookshops/Bookshops - we have a demo program which we can operate in your premises to underpin your sales. We have worked in bookshops the length of the country and can operate demonstrations without running water or electricity. Squaw Pies carries £5M public liability insurance, provides the Risk Assessment documentation as well as requisite fire fighting equipment.

  • For domestic cooks, who are unable to travel to work with us in our kitchens, we may be able to come to you.
